Apple Sauce

On colder mornings, you might be looking for a way to warm up your granola. The easiest way is to eat it with hot milk rather than yoghurt. The result will be a warm and comforting bowl of slightly softer granola. But my favourite way to warm up granola is to serve it with warm apple sauce.

Apple sauce takes only 15 minutes or so to make. Peel, core and chop half a dozen apples into chunks. I tend to use a mix of eating apples and cooking apples. Put in a pan with some sugar (a tablespoon of soft brown sugar, or less if you prefer them more tart) and a tablespoon of water. You can also add cinnamon or vanilla if you like. Cover and cook gently for three to four minutes, then stir and continue cooking for a few more minutes until the apples are soft. Serve warm along with your granola. Store the rest in the fridge and use within five days, warming in the microwave or a small pan, as required.
