Tasty small batch granola

If you’re disappointed with granola that lacks flavour, is overly sweet and contains too few nuts, seeds and dried fruit, so was I. These are the reasons Green’s Granola took its first tiny steps. 

My initial aim was to create a product that I wanted to eat but could not find in the shops: a wholesome and nutty granola with a crunchy and chunky texture and a bold, unique and delicious flavour. This experiment became my Nutty Granola and the recipe has not changed much at all since I started Green’s Granola in the family kitchen in late 2015.

Ten years and seven Great Taste awards later, I still love the process of creating wholesome and delicious products from a single –  yet highly versatile – grain, the humble Scottish oat. I enjoy exploring new flavour combinations and creating seasonal specials and new products to keep things fresh for customers.

My granola is handmade using high-quality natural ingredients, such as Scottish wholegrain jumbo oats, honey, generous helpings of crunchy seeds, hand roasted nuts, delicious dried fruit and coconut or rapeseed oil. My granola bars are handmade using Scottish wholegrain jumbo oats, up to 20% worth of dried fruit and/or nuts, real butter, soft brown sugar and a drizzle of honey.

I am proud to be able to use many ingredients from Scotland’s natural larder: pure, wholegrain jumbo oats from Aberdeenshire; freeze-dried raspberries, apples and blackcurrants from Coupar Angus, Perthshire; and cold pressed rapeseed oil from Madderty, Perthshire. I use a Perthshire honey supplier and source wholefoods responsibly from Scottish-based businesses.

I aim to limit my environmental impact by doing the following things, wherever possible:

  • buying locally and/or sustainably sourced ingredients

  • using recycled and/or recyclable postal packaging 

  • choosing to work with local suppliers

  • seeking to minimise, reuse and/or recycle waste at all times

  • continuing my quest for suitable recyclable granola packaging.
